Unmatched Green Performance:

WINTERGREEN® created the green ice melter marketplace in 1997, and to this day is unmatched in both melting performance and vegetation protection. WINTERGREEN is a wholly unique product that melts with the performance of calcium chloride yet converts to a slow release nitrogen in the soil benefiting plant growth. WINTERGREEN has 10x the melt value of magnesium chloride based on SHRP H-205.1 testing (15°F for 20 minutes).

Ice melt comparisons measured in milliliters using the H-205.1 testing method set up by the SHRP (Strategic Highway Research Program). Ice melters were tested at 15°F for 20 minutes.

Typical ice melter runoff builds up salts in the soil causing vegetation damage along sidewalks, roads and parking lots. The result is unattractive for visitors and expensive to replace.

WinterGreen’s patented formulation melts with the performance of calcium chloride but converts to a slow release nitrogen in its runoff, benefiting the grass and vegetation.

University Proven Safer on Vegetation:

The results of a two year study, by Iowa State University on the Effects of Common De-icing Chemicals on Turf Grass,* found Ossian’s patented WINTERGREEN formulation to not only be gentle on vegetation but it can actually have a greening effect. These results were backed up with a followup study.

Safer for Concrete and Vegetation than Magnesium Chloride:

WINTERGREEN will not harm concrete and vegetation when used according to label instructions. In the Iowa State University report WINTERGREEN’s formulation was shown to far exceed the vegetation friendliness commonly claimed by magnesium chloride.* Incorporating liquid anti-icing practices with dry application rates is essential to reducing chloride and salt impacts on the environment. WINTERGREEN is available in both pellet and liquid deicer forms.

Application Directions:

Spread product evenly over icy surface, using a cup, scoop or spreader at a rate of 1/4 to 1/2 cup per square yard. DO NOT PILE. When melting has occurred and ice separates from the surface, remove slush and water to prevent refreezing. Do not over apply. In snow deeper than two inches, all de-icers are impractical. Shovel first, then spread WINTERGREEN to melt any ice or hard packed snow left behind.

WINTERGREEN is not a fertilizer and should not be applied directly to grass or vegetation. The vegetation benefits result from the unique components of the melt water runoff produced through normal ice melting use.
